But, Molykote would have you covered there too.« RED » Lithium grease. Not gonna talk about the 120F or -40F environments, that's like 0.1% of all firearms use. My goto grease is about 5% MoS2 (by volume) in with Lucas white lithium grease, which basically makes Aeroshell. ![]() Thus far, I have learned what MoS2 does not suspend well in some oils, and for std arms it really makes not a hoot what's used when you put grease where grease goes and oil where oil goes. I have only one dry lube, a PTFE fluid by DuPont (dries to a film). I have 12 custom mixes of stuff, mostly stuff in oils with a few stuff in greases (typically WS2 or MoS2 mixed in at different ratios), along with about 8 common brands off-the-shelf gun lubes, from Liberty oil to Wilson Combat stuff. Molykote has just about anything for any application. If you want a fancy dry film lube you have to go bake on, and Molykote has what's needed for that. Mixing some into a lithium base grease used as a film lubricant will hold a bit longer. Powder alone w/o buffing in just kinda blows away. WS2 and MoS2 by themselves are really meant to be buffed into the surface. ![]()
